Chapter Ten
"Hi, Jace," I said awkwardly as I quickly stood from my chair, my face turning red.
Jace looked from me to his twin with a curious expression. Had he noticed how close Logan and I had been a second before?
"Hey, Raven." Jace hung his coat on a hook in their mudroom and walked into the kitchen. "What are you doing here?"
He narrowed his eyes at Logan as if trying to figure out why his brother and I were alone in their house. As far as he knew, we still hated each other.
I picked up the ice pack that had dropped to the ground when I'd stood. "We were looking for a Christmas tree, but I ended up getting attacked by one. Logan brought me here to fix me up." I awkwardly held the ice pack to my wrist as I lifted it for him to see.
Jace glanced at my bandaged wrist and shrugged. "Cool. I mean, sorry you got hurt."
"It's okay."
Then I turned to Logan who had a frustrated look on his face for a moment before he smoothed it away. And I just felt super awkward as the boys stood there watching each other and watching me. Was Logan embarrassed that he was found alone in his house with me?
Logan cleared his throat after a while and said to Jace, "I guess now that you're back we can go get that tree."
"Okay. Sure." Jace grabbed his coat from a hook and shrugged back into it.
Logan turned to me. "We can drop you off at your house first, if you like."
I pushed a smile on my face. "That would be great. My mom's probably wondering where I've been all day."
Logan and I put on our coats and shoes in silence, neither of us saying anything about the moment we'd had. Had he been thinking about kissing me? He'd looked at my lips, right?
I shook my head. I didn't need to wonder about that. I'd probably just imagined it.
Logan grabbed a set of keys off of a hook on the wall. "I think we'll take the truck. Itâll be easier to attach the tree on top of that, anyway."
I walked toward their Toyota Tundra but stopped when I realized it wasn't one of those huge four-door trucks. Instead, it just had a regular cab with a single row of seats. Which meant I would most likely be squished in the middle of the Carmichael twins.
My old self would be jumping up and down at the prospect of sitting so close to Jace, but with the awkwardness between us all, I was expecting a long drive back to my house.
Logan stopped behind me, his chest brushing against my back. "Is the truck okay?" he asked in a quiet voice that made chills race up the back of my neck.
"The truckâs fine." I craned my neck to look at him, letting my gaze travel over his face. Wow, he was hot.
Logan opened the driver's side door and gestured for me to climb in. I scooted into the middle and both boys sat on either side.
